The Oyo State government has distanced itself from the land dispute between one of its appointees and some individuals at Kasumu village, Odo-Ona Elewe area of Oluyole local government, Ibadan.
The government noted that personal issues of appointees were not government business and consequently warned individuals linking the state government to the issue to desist, saying that, detractors should stop politicizing the dispute.
According to a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, "It is a pity that virtually everything is politicized in Oyo state. Though the said dispute involved an appointee of the state government, Mrs. Tolulope Sadipe, whose late father, Chief AbdulMojeed Olalekan Akande's (popularly known as A.M.O Akande) estate was encroached by some individuals. The state government has not shown any interest in it and it so unfortunate that we are being linked with it.
"Even, some media outfits are asking for our reaction on the said issue. Well, I have told them that we are not involved and I am reiterating same with this statement. The government as well as the governor should not be dragged into the issue. We are more interested in the sustenance of the development of the state and we do not want unnecessary distractions, "he explained.
Arulogun urged detractors to stop peddling rumors that the state government under the leadership of Senator Abiola Ajimobi was forcefully seizing land from owners at Odo-Ona Elewe area of the State.
Corroborating the state government's statement, Mrs Tolu Sadipe, who is the Special Adviser Project to Governor Ajimobi, stated that she was surprised that the state government was being dragged to her personal matter.
She said that at no time did she use the state apparatus to oppress and secure the legitimate land, adding that, as one the executors and trustees of her late father's estate which had been encroached on, she was doing the ideal thing to claim their rightful property.
Mrs Sadipe therefore called on individuals and media organisations to distance the state government and Governor Ajimobi from the land dispute.
