Osun community, religious sect clash in Osogbo

There was a clash between ‎residents of Kelebe community in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osogbo, Osun State and a sect alleged of practising three religions.

It was learnt that the clash occurred when members of ‎the community protested activities of the sect.

Our correspondent gathered that the angry members of the community were scared over the continued operations of the sect in the community and demanded the relocation of its worship centre from the community.

It was learnt that members of the Kelebe Community were fearful last year when the sect, group also known as Toriqat Satia Organisation, built its worship centre in the community.

The residents, who trooped out in their hundreds carried placard reading, "Toriqat Satia Orgnisation is a ritual group and we don't want them", "We don't want kidnappers and ritualists in Kelebe Community", and "All zones In Kelebe Reject Oluwasatia Worldwide Ministry, they are a dangerous people," among others.‎

The protest which started around 7.00a.m., at a time the religious sect members were gathering for their weekly 'service', saw old and young residents of the community wielding placards while chanting songs to drive home their agitation.

"Trouble started when most of us had to shun their various Sunday services to storm the building where the sect members were gathering for their service and demanded their relocation from the community. The sect known as Oju Ona Satia Worldwide Ministry, is operating three in one religion- Muslim, Christianity and traditional religion. They are practising a strange religion in the community," one of the protesters said.

The sect is led by Mukaila Tiamiyu, and when the protesters ransacked the sect's worship centre in search of possible fetish items, and the members of the sect confronted some of the community leaders, a clash resulted, an eyewitness told the Daily Times.

It was learnt that it took the timely intervention of a team of policemen from Oke-Odo Police Division, to avert the crisis from degenerating.

Speaking, the Chairman of Kelebe Community, Alhaji Ismail Adeniyi, said that the presence of the sect had brought fear to members of the community because their operations were strange to them.

He said the community had petitioned the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, the Commissioner of Police in the state, the Directorate of State Service, Muslim leaders and Christian Association of Nigeria on the strange activities of the sect group.

Adeniyi vowed that the community would not relent until the sect left the community saying residents could no longer move freely owing to the presence of the sect's building in the community.

Tiamiyu debunked the accusation that the group was ritualistic claiming that the religious organisation was registered with Corporate Affairs Commission.

Tiamiyu said there were about eleven branches of the religious movement in Osun State and wondered why the community would be protesting against their presence.

He vowed to resist any attempt by the community to stop their activities, and maintained that the group was recognised by law.
