The Head, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, NAFDAC, Anslem Okonkwor, in a statement on Thursday, said the arrest was made during a raid and mop-up exercise led by Mr. Uche Chidi at Ajah area of Lagos.
According to him, the enforcement activities are aimed at riding the state and the nation of fake drugs and unwholesome products.
He said, “During the exercise, three pharmaceutical outlets were thoroughly screened, and fake, unregistered and banned drugs were discovered and their owners arrested.
“The owner of the fourth shop had closed before the NAFDAC officials arrived there. It was however sealed and letter of invitation was left for him to report at the agency’s office in Apapa.”
The statement said the Director, Enforcement Directorate, Mr. Garba McDonald, urged consumers to shun fake products, stating that they are harmful to humans.
Macdonald added that the agency would intensify its efforts to rid markets of unwholesome products, especially as the yuletide is fast approaching.
He said, “We want to ensure that only products that meet up with the minimum international standard are sold in Nigeria.
“We assure Nigerians that the agency is working towards eradicating fake drugs from the system.”
