Corps members campaign against corruption
The National Youth Service Corps members from the Surulere Secretariat, Lagos on Thursday organised Anti-Corruption Road Walk to encourage the populace to shun corruption and join hands to fight the menace.
According to the corps members, corruption has continued to be an impediment to the development of the country.
Assistant Director, Corps Discipline and Reward, NYSC Secretariat, Surulere, Mrs. Beatrice Ayegoro, explained that the rally was to sensitise the public on the importance of shunning corruption and its vices.
She said, “One major battle the nation is fighting now is corruption, we should nurture the youth. Corruption is what we should all fight. The youths are the major change agent because our leaders will hand over to them.
“There must be continuous moves to fight corruption because one would not stop using medications until he /she is well. We can’t say education is bad, and then stop children from going to school.”
The President, NYSC Economic Financial Crime Commission Community Development Group, Stanley Obiora, explained that the corps members decided to dedicate themselves as agents of change to enhance development in the country.
“The youths should serve as an agent of change. They must realise that soon, they will be at the helms of affairs. Having seen what corruption has done to the country, we decided to organise a walk out to campaign against corruption. If our leaders can say no to corruption, the country will turn out to be a better place. Our revenue should be judiciously used to reduce the level of unemployment in the country,” he said.
The treasurer of the Batch C Corps members, Aminat Isiaka, said the country would not grow if there was no fight against corruption.
She added, “Corruption gives a bad result, it has eaten deep into our economy and that is what is preventing us from progress. No country can grow with corruption.”
