A Hausa man, Abdullahi Kabiru, in Osogbo burst into tears after being sentenced to six months imprisonment over stealing of mattress allegation.
It was gathered that the mattress stolen by the 19-year-old northerner, worth N8,000.
When the one count of stealing levelled against Kabiru was charge was read in the court, he pleaded guilty and burst into tears
While crying, Kabiru told the court that he thought the mattress was no longer useful because of the way it was dumped outside.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyin Abiodun, told the court that the accused committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Law of Osun State.
The magistrate, Olusola Aluko, subsequently sentenced Kabiru to 6months, with the option of N5000.
As the warders were taking Kabiru to the prison, another Hausa man who was passing by on the road heard his cry and made enquiry.
When he was told that Kabiru was given an option of fine, he paid the money and Kabiru was discharged.
