Drivers protest against robbery attacks on Ife-Ijesha road
Trailer and truck drivers have embarked on a protest against the frequent robbery attacks on Ife-Ilesa expressway, in Osun State.
The protest, which saw the drivers blocking the Ibodi junction on Ife-Ilesa expressway, started around 04.a.m. on Monday, as a result of a robbery incident which took place on the road, overnight.
Our correspondent learnt that the protest disrupted the free flow of traffic for some hours.
Some of the protesters said they were unhappy furious because of the duration of the last robbery.
It was gathered that in April 2015, two robbery suspects with firearms were arrested by the policemen on patrol.
According to a driver, the robbers were fund of mounting barricades to slow down the flow of traffic.
One of them, identified as Deola said, "It was a horrible experience for us. The robbery that happened overnight was the worst. It lasted for over three hours and there was no security operatives to fight for us. Throughout the period of robbery, all the police and army that used to stop us on the way were conspicuously absent."
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, DSP Folashade Odoro, said no robbery incident had been reported to the police.
