The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade II, during a courtesy visit by President Goodluck Jonathan asked all the kings present to surround the president an‎d pray for his re-election.

The president had during the weekend visited the first class traditional ruler when Ooni endorsed him for second term. ‎

Ooni dramatically said, "‎Your Excellency, as a son we love, there is something we do at the source which they don't do in any part of Yoruba land. ‎You are battling a race and by the special grace of God, you will win the race" and subsequently asked ‎Prof. Wale Oladipo, who sat beside him to take his seat to the centre and stand by it.

He then told ‎'Mr. President', "you are going to sit on that seat".

After that, Ooni ‎ ordered in Yoruba language that, "All of you Yoruba kings, you will stand with your staff and surround the president with prayers. He (Jonathan) must not fail!"

They all chorused Ase (amen) as Ooni kept repeating, "He must not fail! (amen). Surround him and point your staff of authority at him. He must not fail!"

Our correspondent reported that the monarchs surrounded Jonathan and prayed as ordered for about two minutes.

As the prayer moves to an end, the Ooni said, "Thanks you all. May you all live long. May you have good health."

Other monarchs appointed to speak by the Ooni assured Jonathan of their support but warned him not to forget his promises to them.

On his part, ‎President Goodluck Jonathan said the implementation of the resolutions was key to the advancement of the country.

"‎When some people are talking about change, we are talking about moving Nigerians forward and to move Nigeria forward, we believe that the implementation of the National Conference report is key.

"We believe that implementing that report is key in pushing this country forward. PDP is party that have concluded to implement that report 100 per cent."

He assured that people from South West would get more political appointments if elected for second term.

"One of the issues raised on political appointment for people of South West, I promise in the next dispensation, what ever lapses we have will be taken care of. ‎In my second tenure, I will make sure that it doesn't come up again and people from South-West are given prominent positions in government," he added.
