Government activities were brought to a standstill in Ogun and Osun states yesterday when workers in those states took to the streets to protest the non-payment opf their salaries and allowances, while some commenced a three day warning strike.

The Ogun State workers strike was called by Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council over unpaid five months deductions from the workers' salaries.

In Osun State, placard-carrying public workers in Osun State on Tuesday protested over delay in the payment of their salaries and allowances.

It was learnt that Osun State Government has not paid over two months salaries of the workers.

The government had on different occasion blamed the reduction and delay in payment of allocation by Federal Government for the salaries delay. A statement issued and signed by Governor Rauf Aregbesola's aide, Semiu Okanlawon, said that the state government was owing three months and pleaded with the workers to show understanding over the matter.

Also in Abeokuta, pupils and students of public primary and secondary schools were seen returning home.

Addressing newsmen, Secretary of the JNC, Comrade Modiu Bello, said the essence of the strike was to press home their demands over alleged inability of government to pay the deducted pension and cooperative deductions of workers.

Bello flanked by other members of the Council said that the state government under the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, owed workers five months cooperative deductions into cooperative societies accounts.

Ogun State Head of Service, Mrs. Modupe Adekunle, who spoke with newsmen said the strike came as a surprise, insisting that government was not duly notified.

She said that the inability of the state government to pay the deductions was as a result of a sharp short fall in federal allocation to the state.
