AOCOED students lament poor facilities, high fees

OCTOBER 27, 2014 BY SODIQ OYELEKE

Students of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education have called on the Lagos State Government to reduce their school fees and improve infrastructure in their college.

This was contained in a letter to Lagos State Governor Raji Fashola by the AOCOED Students Union.

A copy of the letter made available to our correspondent was jointly signed by the Presidents of the SU, Ojoare Olamilekan and Secretary, Waheed Oluwaseun.

According to the students of the oldest state-owned institution in the state, they now pay higher than the state university, Lagos State University.

While LASU students currently pay N25,000, AOCOED students pay N40,000.

They lamented that there had been no developmental changes in the college, faulting the Lagos State Government for paying less attention to them.

The letter read in part, "One of the prominent reasons for dwindling in AOCOED enrolment is the oppressive fees regime.

"Many of our students aren't financially capable as they are mostly the children of the Nigerians that receives less than N18,000 minimum wage in the state.

"It is unimaginable when a college of education with certification in National Certificate in Education pays higher than a university with award of Bachelor's degree."

It was revealed in the letter that students studying theatre arts have no departmental classrooms for their lectures and that many students are suffering accommodation challenges.
