The
Senate President, David Mark, and the Borno State Governor, Kashim
Shettima, among other Nigerians, on Monday extolled the virtues of
Ademola, the late father of the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.
Others, who extolled the virtues of the
deceased, included the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly,
Mr. Razak Atunwa; the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Lands,
Housing and Urban Development, Senator Gbenga Ashafa; the Oodua Peoples
Congress, the Ndigbo Progressive Movement, the Conference of Nigerian
Political Parties, the Eko Club and the Afenifere Renewal Group.
Mark, in his condolence message to Fashola, said the deceased led an eventful and accomplished life worthy of emulation.
He said, “I received the news of the
death of your beloved father with shock and sadness at a time his wealth
of experience and wisdom is most needed.
“I am however consoled that your father lived an exemplary life and left a legacy of selfless service to the community.”
Also, Senator Babajide Omoworare said the deceased life of discipline was seen as a trait in the governor.
Ashafa, in his statement, described the late Fashola as a rare breed, who had a high sense of discipline.
The OPC founder and chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria, Dr. Federick Fasehun, described the death as a loss to the nation.
Fasehun told NAN that the death was a big loss, especially as his son, Babatunde, was away to pray for the state and the nation.
The President of the Ndi-Igbo Progressive Movement, Dr. Smart Ofonyiri, said the late Fashola was a gentleman.
“I knew him as a resident of Surulere and he was a kind and easy-going man,” he said.
The Lagos State Chairman of the CNPP, Mr. Akinola Obadia, said the death was a loss to Nigeria.
In a statement, President of Eko Club, Alhaji Owolabi Lawal, said the death was a painful one.
The ARG, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famiriyo, described the deceased as a man of “disciplined character.”
Shettima said the deceased by “his gift
of an excellent son to Lagos and Nigeria,left a legacy that would, for
long, remain a reference in the history of leadership not only in Lagos
but also in the South-West and the nation.
