‘FRSC should investigate drivers’ behaviour’
Agekameh said this during the FRSC Lagos State Command’s first bi-annual retreat in Lagos on Saturday.
The renowned speaker, who was the chairman of the occasion, said the research would make FRSC officials objective in their arrest and dealings with motorists.
He said, “It is advisable that FRSC should embark on a research that will aid their functions. They should probably conduct a research into the behaviour of drivers and motorists generally.
“Everything is changing and several means of committing crimes have emerged especially with the presence of technology. Embarking on a research would unveil the several logics and patterns of committing crimes on the road.”
He advised participants at the retreat to project the image of the FRSC in a positive manner.
“As an official, it is important to promote the image of FRSC. You should be polite, punish offenders with reasons and comport yourselvcs in the best manner. Learn to clear obstruction diligently,” he said.
Representative of the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Chidi Nkwonta, called for commitment among commandants to enhance the performance of the corps.
He added, “Our statistics must be translated from figures into real terms. This is what shows how productive we are. Be committed to duty and avoid ambiguity.”
The corps’ sector commander, Lagos Command, Mr. Nseobong Akpabio, said there must be a regular public enlightment to make the FRSC’s 2013 goals achievable.
“We have several goals to pursue this year, part of which are the reduction of traffic, road crashes among others. One of the major means of achieving this is to embark on enlightenment. The special marshals must also join in this. More work needs to be done on enlightenment,” he said.
Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal, Kab Lawal, stressed the need for regular assessment of the FRSC, saying that was the only way efficiency could be verified.
“It is important we hold command assessment regularly because we cannot continue to say we are working and we don’t have evidence for it. Yes we have made several interventions on the road, yet we must assess to enhance productivity,” Lawal said.
