Southgate, Cisco recommend automation for customers satisfaction

Southgate Technologies Limited and Cisco Systems have advised experts in the information and communication technology sector to automate their data collection process.

The companies gave the advice during a seminar on ‘Data centre consolidation and automation’ in Lagos.
The Manager, Business Solutions, Southgate Technologies, Mr. DafeOroghi, who spoke on ‘Consolidation and virtualisation’, explained that consolidating data aids customers’ satisfaction.

He said, “Though customers may have some pains for consolidation – such as too many networks and devices already, challenges of sharing and moving resources, management cost, need for more flexible architecture among others – these are things that have easy solutions with consolidated data.

“We need to move from the traditional disparate networking model to clouding, especially consolidation with unified fabric which is a special type with a 109 interface.”

Oroghi explained that that clouding had comparative advantages over traditional data gathering, stressing that it allowed shared consumption, easy usage through self-service, scale on demand, automated recovery in minutes, among other things.

He said, “Cloud is a data centre with automation. It has IT resources and services that are abstracted from the underlying infrastructure and provided on demand and at scale in an elastic environment.

“Users pay per usage and not like that of traditional data processing. Cloud guarantees security, control service level management and compliance. It is trusted, reliable, flexible dynamic and efficient.”

The Manager, Data Centre Business, West Africa, Cisco Systems, Mr. TosinAmusa, said it was necessary to engage right networking resources to get effective result.

Cisco Systems Manager for Data Centre Business, West Africa, Mr. Tosin Amusa said it was necessary to engage right networking resources to get effective result.

He said, "Cisco intelligent automation and Nexus 1000V are advisable for result oriented clouding. They ensure right networking resources are assigned and eliminate IT rework to correct errors.

"Solution packs for cloud management on open stack create virtual data centre, controlled infrastructure and consistent manageability especially if they are Cisco packages."

Managing Director of Southgate, Mr. Folami Sarumi noted that public-private partnership was key for the growth of the IT sector.

"IT is one of the regions that can reduce unemployment in Nigeria and to achieve this, there must be partnership for the current trend is IT," he said.
