Charlyboy's Group Storms INEC Headquarters Over PVC
The Group is a non-political coalition of Nigerians from all backgrounds that advocates national reawakening towards holding leaders responsible and ensuring good governance at all levels.
Charlyboy said the protest was to alert INEC that there were noticeable inadequate mobilisation of men and materials for the on-going voter's registration exercise.
He alleged that the registration and collection centres were inadequate to cater for those willing to register, and called for the setting up of more centres across the country to further reduced the `bottleneck.
"There is a general challenge of voters registration in different parts of the country, especially with regard to the unavailability of required registration centres.
"The registration and collection centres are not enough, even in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and other parts of the country, especially in the South.
"If INEC needs to employ more staff and create more centres, it should do that urgently and make enough time available for people to get registered,'' he said.
He added that such inadequacies could discourage people from participation thereby resulting to voter's apathy and disenfranchisement.
He however commended the electoral umpire for its commitment towards electioneering processes over the years, adding that the group was willing to mobilise Nigerians for the exercise.
"We commend INEC on some giant strides it has recorded since its formation, and the space it is giving to dialogue during this period on how to improve our electoral process.
Charlyboy, therefore handed a letter containing the group's grievances and demands, addressed to the Chairman of INEC Mr Mahmood Yakubu.
Mr Musa Sekpe, Acting Director of the Directorate of Security in the Commission, who received the letter on behalf of the chairman, commended the group for its genuine concern towards ensuring active participation of Nigerians in elections.
He therefore assured the group that their demands would be looked into with the urgently.
