The Vice-Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Public Account Committee, Mr. Kazeem Alimi, says the government in the state has put structures in place to ensure transparency.
He added that the strengthening of the Auditor-General’s Office was one of the ways to ensure accountability in the various arms of government.
Alimi, who represents Eti-Osa constituency, spoke during the opening of the third annual Auditors’ Retreat organised by the Office of the state Auditor-General with the theme, ‘Enhancing the audit process in the Public sector’.
He said, “It is now clear to us all that the Office of the Auditor-General is living up to expectation. The office has been strengthened to reduce fraudulent acts in the state.”
The acting Auditor-General of the state, Mrs. Oyenike Abimbola, said the retreat was to review the vision of enhancing transparency through good governance.
She said, “In this retreat, we desire to go a step further by deciding the modus-operandi of achieving the organisational objectives and vision of being a role model in public sector auditing.
“This retreat is therefore designed to position auditors in providing value added services that will assist in good governance.”
Abimbola, who urged the participants not to compromise, added that they were responsible for ensuring accountability in the public service.
She said, “We have to concentrate on improving our reporting process, providing advisory services to government and its agencies and devising means of blocking leakages in state’s internally generated revenues.”
