ACN chief advocates support for old people

Seriki, who is the Apase of Epeland, made the call during the ‘community support   and empowerment programme’ for over 200 old persons in the Epe area of Lagos on Friday.

He said, “The programme is to empower old people, both men and women. I don’t think this set of people still have the capacities to do much work or labour. So we as leaders must find a way to help them and make them feel comfortable.

“I am giving N5, 000 each to over 200 people. If it is ordinary soft drinks or pure water, they can buy and re-sell in small scale. I know the money may not be much, but there will be improvement on it soon.”

Representative of the Epe constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Tobun Abiodun, said taking care of the aged’s welfare should be everybody’s duty.

He said, “This idea is good as it will make sure that the dividends of democracy is spread among people, including the aged.”
Chairman, ACN, Epe, Mr. Bode Alausa, also advised leaders to assist the needy in their area, saying, “This will go a long way to give them a sense of purpose and keep them occupied.”

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Epe Local Government Chairman, Olusegun Agbaje, commended the donor and urged other leaders to emulate such community development programme.

He said, “I am happy with this development because it is a means to ensure that people benefit from the system. The local government cannot do it alone. I am happy that a leader is influencing people of my great community in a very good way.”
