The proprietor, Riverside Montessori School, Isheri, Ogun State, Mrs. Oladunni Adewuyi, has urged parents to allow their pupils to participate in extra- curricula activities.
She said this during the performance of a stage drama with an African touch, “The gods are not to blame” by the dance drama club of the school in Lagos.
She wondered why many parents refused to permit their children to participate in extra-curricula activities, which she said enhanced creativity.
She said, “Parents are very shy in registering their children in extra-curricula activities, they think it is all about academics. They must know that this helps to boost creativity which builds the brain.”
The special guest for the drama, Mr. Tade Ogidan, said the children would be able to learn fast, if they could memorise and act such drama on stage.
The stage drama expert said, “It is not easy for the children to memorise all the lines. If they can do this, they can learn anything.
“Parents should put their children in positions where they can learn to be creative and do other extra-curricula things that will help the brain to develop.”
A parent, Mr. Dimeji Saka described the performance by the pupils as a communication of value.
“Schools must strive to enhance quality through creativity because that determines the effectiveness of learning. The children have communicated value with this,” he added.
