A non governmental organisation dedicated to the development
of the less privilege people, Golden Heart Touching Lifes, has organised free
medical check-up and treatment for about 500 people in Lagos.
Speaking at the programme on Saturday, the Chiarperson of
the group, Mrs Angella Emuwa said the group was set to provide solution to
various health challenges faced by people in the country.
“We aim at reaching out to people who are often forgotten by
the society in some ways. We want to carter for the less privileged ones who
have no access to quality health treatment,” she said.
Emuwa wondered why the government have payed little
attention to the less privileged ones with health challenges.
She urged the government to enforce laws that will improve
the health sector and cater for the citizens.
She said, “We must establish a national health system where people
dont have to pay much for treatment. They will only need to pay their tax and
meet up with some general requirements. So, once they are sick, they can
confidently walk down for treatment.
“This will reduce death rate in the country.Treatument
should be more affordable in the country, people who do not have money should
be able to give good health care.”
Coordinator of the group, Dr. Ronke Agoro pointed that untill
the cost of treatment is reduced, the country will continue to experience high
death rate.
“Treatment should not be as
expensive as we have it. There should be
health insurance for for the low income earners without having to pay much to
safe the lives,” she added.
She explained that the group as in its own capacity, engage
in the treatment of the less privileged people who cannot afford treatment fee
in hospitals
She said, “At Golden Heart, we
touch lives and bridge the gap between the rich and the less privilege. we have
special interest in children with special need, we want to bring them back to
the fore front of the society so that they can be cartered for.
“We have been doing this for about
four years, and we have reached alot of people at various locations. At pesent, we treated not
less than 500 people today.”
A beneficiary of the free
treatment, Mr. Josiah Adewale commended the organisers of the programme, saying
that they hav been able to rescue alot of lives
with illness in the community.
He said, “This programme is a very good programme, alot of
people have come for eye test, HIV, and other tests. They have proffered
solutions to the problems of various health issues in the community.
“They also gave out medicine, glasses and other preventive
equipment to the people. It is a good programme and if this can continue, alot
of people with ailment would be cartered for with little or no cash. Many
people with alot of ailment who cannot go to the hospital because of the cost
where able to get treatment.”
