Some Islamic groups have condemned the killing of Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme for allegedly blaspheming against Prophet Muhammad.
They called for justice for the victim.
Agbaheme, a Christian woman, was attacked by a mob and beaten to death in Wambai Market, Kano State, on Thursday.
The Director of the Muslim Rights Concern, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, described the killing as barbaric.
He said, “Islam frowns at mob action. Even where blasphemy is committed, the woman should have been taken to a police station. The Nigeria Police must investigate and deal with the culprits according to the law.”
Also, the President of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria in Lagos, Saheed Ashafa, said the incident was saddening, adding that Islam taught respect for both Muslims and non-Muslims.
The Executive Chairman of Muslim Public Affairs Centre, Disu Kamor, said, “This attack should be seen as a criminal act by people who have no respect for the rule of law.”
