There has been different accounts all over the Internet as regards what transpired between Gov. Ayo Fayose and Sheikh Muyideen Bello.
Correspondents of @10taclesNG were able to obtain first hand information as regards what actually happened from multiple extremely reliable sources.
To set the records straight :
1. The event that took place was the Triennial National Conference of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, a foremost Muslim organization established in 1923 with indelible footprints in the country, especially as regards education. The conference was held at Ado-Ekiti from Friday, March 25, 2016 to Sunday, March 27,2016.
2. Governor Ayo Fayose was billed to officially declare the conference open on Saturday, March 25,2016, at The Great Eagle Centre, Ikere Road, Ado Ekiti.
3. Governor Ayo Fayose was represented by the deputy governor of Ekiti, Mr. Kolapo Olusola. He made a speech expounding the remarkable contributions of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, to education in Ekiti State. The deputy governor subsequently declared the conference open.
4. While the conference participants were about to proceed on a lunch break, Governor Ayo Fayose stepped in and they returned to the hall.
5. Governor Ayo Fayose spoke in his usual verbose style and appeared very happy to be at the event. At a point, he declared : "I am a Muslim today"!
6. The National President of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Alhaji L.O Okunnu SAN CON, in the spirit of the relaxed and jovial atmosphere, gave the governor a Muslim name," Abdul Jabbar", since he had declared " I am a Muslim today".
The President also put a green cap (the society's uniform is green cap on white cloth) to match the white cloth Fayose was wearing.

7. Sheikh Muyideen Bello, the Chief Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Northern States Council, was called upon to pray for Governor "Abdul-Jabbar" Peter Ayodele Fayose. After praying, he proceeded to give the governor some hot pieces of advice. He advised him to govern Ekiti State with patience irrespective of how he got to power. He also urged him to watch his utterances and focus on governing Ekiti State rather than concerning himself a lot with happenings in Abuja (ie Federal Government).

8. Governor Ayo Fayose responded thereafter in full angry mode. He lashed out at the Missioner , pillorying for meddling into political matters. He also insinuated that the Missioner is not exposed for telling him to stop launching insults at the FG. He boasted that he is Peter, which means rock, and that no one can conquer him. He dared the Missioner to contest against him at the polls in Ekiti. He also boasted about being the only governor that has served under three Presidents (OBJ, GEJ & PMB). He emphasized that God is with him and he's afraid of no one. He also emphasized that he doesn't regret any of his public outbursts to date and made it known he would keep up such outbursts. All these he said, despite entreaties from the dignitaries table to him to keep calm. He was apparently annoyed that someone could dare speak to him in such manner (even though wholly true) in public.
9. While the incident threatened to derail the event, it didn't delay the program for three hours as purported by some online media sources. Also, Fayose did not refuse to go out! In fact, no one demanded that he should leave the program immediately in the first instance. After some minutes, the atmosphere became calmer upon the intervention of Alhaji L. O Okunnu SAN CON (The National President of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria).
10. Governor Ayo Fayose later assumed that Sheikh Muyideen Bello didn't say any of what he said and left a few minutes later.

ReplyDeleteBut I would also like to add that the advise given to the governor by the missioner actually was said without recourse to the personal integrity of the governor. The fact remain that tevery human being commend for respect & should be seem to be respected. Finally any religion lcleric dabbling in to politic should expect such can of insult that was metted to the cleric. Gov Fayoae may seeing to be impatient but the manners & way at which the cleric talk to him too is devour of good normal decorum.
