Civil society storms National Assembly over Osun’s financial crisis

Monday, January 25, 2016

Over 5,000 indigines of Osun state under the umbrella of Civil Societies Coalition for Emancipation of Osun state (CSCEO) will stage a peaceful rally at the National Assembly, Abuja on Tuesday (tomorrow) over the alleged maladministration and mis-governance of the state public funds by the government of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.

In a statement by the Chairman of the group, Comrade Adeniyi Sulaiman, the rally becomes necessary due to the current financial mess the state is now facing over the "minus-allocation" of funds being received by Aregbesola's government from the Federation Account.

According to him, the pathetic situation was as a result of over N2.5 billion being deducted from state allocation to service about N478billion loans received by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration in the state.

He explained that those that will participate in the rally are members of the Coalescing group from all the 30 local government areas of the state.

CSCEO members according to Sulaiman included The Voices, KIMPACT, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, Grassroots Democratic Network, Christian Initiative for Nation Building, Christian Leadership Mobilization and Better Future Initiative.

Others, he said, are Centre for Social Justice and Equity of Nigeria (CESJEN), Development and Peace Movement (DPM), Positive Movement (PM), Good Governance Support Group, Coalition of Osun Youth Group (CSYG), Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and Christian Leadership Mobilisation Initiatives (CLMI).
