The Proprietor of Royal Master's School, Lagos, Mr. Samuel Olatunji, has expressed concern over the increasing rate of examination malpractice and corruption in the nation's schools.

Olatunji said this on Thursday during the school's Christmas Concert. Pupils of the school also displayed various cultural skills on the occasion.

According to him, government at all levels and school owners must adopt practically ways to curb examination malpractice.

He said, "Government needs to be practical in changing the state of education beyond seminars, and conferences. There is also the need for an action that can address the fundamental challenges in education and bring about improved curriculum and ethical environment. The issue of exam malpractice particularly gives me concern, as pupils are increasingly engaging in the vice.

The educationist, who stressed the need for morality, bemoaned a situation where pupils get results that do not match their academic brilliance.

Olatunji added, "Private schools are gradually becoming increasingly corrupt. Pupils should get good results after hard work without depending on teachers. How will a pupil score 'A' grade without knowing anything? You cannot harvest where you did not plant. Government, school owners, parents, therefore, have a lot to do to return sanity to education. The home, for instance, has a role to play in making a child successful."

The Chairman, Parent Teacher Association of the school, Mr. Muyiwa Majekodunmi, commended the Montessori approach adopted by the school to bring up its pupils.

The PTA Chairman, who said the concert would help to improve creative skills in pupils, explained that such an activity was good for their rounded education.
