MSSN trains youths on morality

Friday, December 18, 2015

To reduce immorality among pupils, the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, has said that it will train 3,000 pupils this December during its camping programme.

The President of the society, Mr. Saheed Ashafa, said this at a briefing ahead of the Islamic Vacation Course camp expected to hold at Epe, between December 21 and January 1, 2016.

He explained that the increasing rate of exam malpractice was because of immorality.

According to him, one of the ways to end the leadership challenges faced by Nigeria is by training youths on character-building.

He said, "One would have expected that with the prevalence of religious institutions, there would not be so much corruption and insincerity in the country. However, the reverse is the case. Immorality is increasing, just as infidelity and corruption are gradually becoming acceptable values in Nigeria.

"Many problems in Nigeria, especially in the education sector today would have been a thing of the past if we followed due process. This informed the theme of this year's camp – 'The basis'.

"During the camping programme, we will be training about 3000 pupils and above 2000 undergraduates including workers on spiritual uprightness and academic excellence through soul inspiring lectures and motivational discussions."

Ashafa further expressed concern over the increasing indecency and injustice in the country's educational sector,  nothing that those would continue to act as impediments if not addressed with practical actions.

"The injustice in the Nigeria system will always affect our growth, if not stopped. You can imagine a state like Lagos State allowing students to pause exam to hold Christmas Carol but insisted that Muslim pupils cannot willingly wear Hijab. Maybe we should stop deceiving ourselves and accept it, that there is an unpardonable need to return to the basis, where equality is equal," he added.
