Health workers demand N150m deductions from Osun

The Medical and Dental Consultants' Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital Chapter, Osogbo has asked the Osun State Government to refund deductions from members of associations and co-operatives in the institution running to N150 million.

The health workers said this in a letter tagged 'Save-Our-Soul' signed by their Chairman and General Secretary, Dr. Kazeem Adebayo and Tikunbo Olajumoke respectively‎.

The workers also appealed to Osun State Government to pay their four months salaries.

It would be recalled that health workers in the hospital have on Tuesday embarked on indefinite strike action which thus paralysed medical activities in the hospital

For the strike, the hundreds of health workers are demanding for  ‎payment of their outstanding salaries arrears, deductions and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for health workers  among others.

It was gathered that the health workers despite their strike are still doing skeletal work.

Association said medical consultants as most senior medical workers were committed to the smooth running of the hospital.

It said, "It beat anyone's imagination that despite the important nature of health care delivery, health-care providers are now finding it difficult to cater for their needs. In essence, while we consider that the current strike embarked upon by some cadres of healthcare providers in the hospital as avoidable, it is pertinent to note that members of staff have experienced untold hardship and was probably left with no other option.

"The patriotism being demonstrated by medical consultants is unprecedented and rare by the fact that this is the only association who has never gone on strike in the institution. However, this patriotism needs to be reciprocated by the management of the hospital and the government of the state of Osun."
