Ramadan: Dowen Organises Quiz Competition for Pupils, Counsel Parents

The Muslim Community of Dowen's College has organised a quiz competition for pupils in Lagos primary schools.

According one of the organisers, Mr. Ibrahim Adediran, the competition was organised by the Muslim Community of Dowen College to re-awaken religious and academic up-rightness in pupils.

He explained that the debate and lecture for parents were part of the programmes lined-up for its 2014 Annual Ramadan Symposium.

During the competition, Pupils of Taqwa Private School outshine their counterparts in a quiz competition organised for secondary schools in Lagos.

The schools that participated in the competition are: New Hall International School, Al-Aleem Academy, Al-Akeedat Model College, Victoria Island Senior Secondary School, Muslim Children Private School and the Valuable Kiddies.

While Pupils from Taqwa emerged first with 25 points, MCPS came second with 20 points and Al-Aleem took third position with 18 points.

Winners in the competition were given prizes with representatives of the schools that took first and second positions awarded scholarship to American Intentional University, The Gambia.

Principal of Dowen College, Lagos, Mrs. Olawunmi Togonou-Bickersteth, advised parents to invest in the education of their children.

Bicaker explained that it was the responsibility of every parent to ensure proper development of their child.
She said, "Parents must train their children in ways that would benefit the society. They must mentor them on how to combat challenges without losing their morality. It is also important to teach them to pray and work hard.
"Parents should make their children understand why they should separate themselves from worldly things. Parenthood is a hard job on earth and we must invest in our children education and spiritual development."
She, however, urged pupils not to be derailed with the challenges facing the country, saying they are the hope of the country.
Quality Control Manager, Vitabuiotics Nigeria Limited, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Ajala, while delivering his keynote lecture, asked parents to monitor what their children are exposed to.
He added, "We must learn to invest our time in things that would benefit our development. We must always develop our knowledge. Good character must be our focus and we should not engage in sinful act. As human beings, we must not engage in sinful act, especially in this month that we are.
"What you expose yourself to has a lot of impact on your thought.  Parents must enhance their children elevation. It is not what you leave for your children but what you leave in your children."
