A small scale business concern

VConnect Counsels SMEs on Online Directory

A local search engine, VConnect Global Services Limited has lamented the low online presence of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, saying more than 17 million businesses lack online presence in Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement by the General Manager of the company, Mr. Deepankar Rustagi, made available to our correspondent on Monday.
He, however, advised Small and Medium Scale Enterprises to retool for online directory such as short messages, website design and optimization, among others for growth.
Rustagi said: “With about 17 Million Micro, Small and Medium Scale businesses in Nigeria, a sizeable number do not have online presence. One of the first success factors for any SMEs is to register their business with an online directory or local search engine.
“More than 700,000 businesses are currently listed with Vconnect and by listing businesses online, global visibility will be achieved. By doing this, organisations can manage their business profile including products, services and even the brands they deal on.”
The online expert explained that online visibility via priority listing and display advert banners would also help businesses to develop.
He said: “Merely listing business is not just enough. For online business directories; it does not just end at business listing. Millions of people make different searches every day.
“It also depends on the package you are operating. For us, a business gets priority listing on our website when they are on premium visibility. They appear tops when any search is done in their category of business. Hence people find them easily and they enjoy huge footfall and traffic.”
According to him, companies need to promote their businesses via display advert and bulks Short Messages aimed at specific customers.
“Organisations think that by sending bulk SMS, a business will get lot of customers. Contrary to this, business owners not only waste their hard earned money but also their time and energy. The fact is that every business owner knows who their prospect customers are, through age, gender, location classification. So there is no need for randomized SMS when you can reach out to only the people who need your product or services,” he added.
