PRONACO accuses FG of shielding Otedola, others
Citizens Advocacy Group, the advocacy organ of Pro-National Conference Organisation, has accused the Federal Government of shielding oil magnate, Mr. Femi Otedola, and others involved in the fuel subsidy scam from prosecution.
The group, in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Okunniyi, threatened to mobilise Nigerians against any attempt by the government to neutralise the report of the Farouk Lawan-led committee on the account of the bribery plot by Otedola against the committee.
Okunniyi, who said both Otedola and Lawan could be culpable under the Nigerian law and international conventions, urged the government to allow the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, to commence their prosecution.
He said, “We suspect that the Nigerian government seems to be more concerned about shielding Otedola, its ally in this scandal. Otherwise, a strong legal action to bring the accused to trial before a competent court of law should have been taken on the investigative report and prima facie case established on the alleged bribery scandal presented to the Office of the Attorney-General since August 2012 by the Police.
“What we have also observed here is that having deliberately rubbished the indicting report of the House of Representatives on the fuel subsidy scam, the FG is now trying to sweep the prosecution of the bribery saga, involving one his principal agents, under the carpet. This is exposing the Nigerian government as promoting and condoning fraud.”
