Oyo acquires mobile ambulances for free rural health services
The Oyo State Government has acquired mobile ambulances for the immediate commencement of free rural health care services, Governor Abiola Ajimobi has disclosed.
He made the disclosure while speaking at the senatorial meeting of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Oyo South Senatorial District held at the Mapo Hall, Ibadan at the week-end.
The governor, who said that the ambulances would be inaugurated next week, explained that they would be deployed to all the nooks and crannies of the state to attend to the health challenges of the people.
He said that arrangement had been concluded with one of the mobile network providers to acquire some emergency telephone lines with which the people would be communicating with the health personnel who would be manning the ambulances from any part of the state.
Governor Ajimobi said that at least, three emergency points would be built in each of the local governments where the ambulances would be stationed and from where they would available for call from anybody with health challenges.
While speaking on the ongoing removal of illegal structures, particularly within the Ibadan metropolis, the governor said that no single street trader had been displaced without any prior notice and without provision of an alternative place.
He explained that it was only stalls erected on the road, drainages, water channels and floor plains that were being removed, adding that the exercise was aimed at keeping the environment clean and removing the typecast of Oyo being the dirtiest state in Nigeria.
``We are not out to punish anybody,’’ Ajimobi emphasized, promising to render financial assistance to the traders who had cooperated with his government by removing their stalls and trading off the streets.
``I want to sincerely thank those traders who have removed their stalls and are now trading off the streets. They have really helped us in our determination to improve the aesthetics of Oyo State. I want to assure them that I will help them financially for being supportive,’’ the governor said.
He said that the Mokola fly-over currently under construction had reached 90 per cent completion, adding that eight other bridges hitherto washed away by flood would be ready any moment from now.
Governor Ajimobi also said that work had commenced on the dualization of entry points to such major towns as Oyo, Ogbomoso and Iseyin as well as the dualization of Dugbe-Jericho-Eleiyele-
He sued for unity and cohesion among members of the ruling ACN, saying that it was only through this that they party could be put in a better stead to deliver democracy dividends to the people of the state.
