Maulud: Govs, PDP preach peace
Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); and Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa) as well as the Peoples Democratic Party have called on Nigerians to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Maulud (birth of Prophet Muhammed) to pray for unity and an end to insecurity in the country.
Fayemi, whose message was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode said, “The governor urged Muslims to use the opportunity presented by this occasion to pray for Nigeria to overcome the prevailing security challenges in the country.”
Prophet Muhammed, according to him, is a study in humility and selflessness among his people the principle which he taught his adherents through his writings in the Hadith.
Aregbesola charged Muslims on good behaviour and harmonious relationship with neighbours wherever they reside.
Aregbesola said the essence of religion was to make adherents of such faith better followers in their living standard, behaviour, deeds and utterances.
He said, “It therefore behoves us as Muslims to emulate this best example of mankind in our living, our deeds our utterances, our behaviour and our interpersonal relationship with people around us, Muslims and non-Muslims alike.”
Dickson, in his message, called on Nigerians to put aside their ethno-religious differences and join hands in building an egalitarian society.
Stressing the needs for peaceful co-existence among various ethnic groups, the governor described Prophet Mohammed as an epitome of peace and oneness.
The PDP urged Nigerians to put aside their differences and join hands in building an endearing society for the benefit of all.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Wednesday, urged Nigerians to reflect on the message of Eid’l-Maulud and imbibe the attributes of peace, oneness and love which the Holy Prophet epitomised.
He said, “We are one people united by a common destiny; therefore we must set aside all our differences and work together as one people. We must use this occasion to reflect and imbibe the attributes of peace, unity and love towards one another.”
