IIS donates books, electronics to schools, others

As part of its Community Development Service, Ifako International Schools, Lagos, has donated educational materials, food items, electronics to public schools and motherless babies’ home within its community.

Coupled with the donation, pupils of the school also clean the surroundings of the beneficiary schools. They also tiled the floor of the Olowosokedile Police Station, Iju Road, Iju.

The beneficiaries of the community service included Iju Station Primary School; Coker Memorial Primary School, Idiagbon; Fred Williams Memorial Primary School, Iju; Tunji Abayomi Foundation Orphanage, Fagba; and Bola Mofo Zion Shelter Orphanage, Nelson Cole Avenue, Iju.

The Principal of Ifako International School, Mrs. Christianah Olabode, said the gesture was part of activities put together to celebrate the birthday of the institution’s founder, Mr. Majekodunmi.

She said, “We felt that giving back to our community will be a good way to celebrate his birthday because he was a giver. He cared so much about the welfare of people around him.”

Olabode added that it was important for parents to teach their children about the benefits of giving.

“We got our pupils involved so that they will know that there are children who are in need of their help.”

The Chairperson, Organising Committee, Mrs. German Joseph, added that the donations were to develop a friendly environment that would aid educational development.

She said, “The community service is an annual event in the school. We have done it for about four years; we go round to make our presence felt in the community where we are. We do it as a kind of social service to boost our relationship with the community as a means of raising educational standard. It is also to preach kindness to our pupils.”

Also, the Head Boy, Ifako International Schools, Ayodele Israel, said the community service had taught the pupils to love the people around them.

“This is a moral social responsibility. We are giving back to the community we operate in and have generated from. We, as pupils, have learnt to see people around us as our family and we must help them in every possible way we can. This instils good moral in the pupils to always show love to people around them and to also give back to the community just as we have done here today,” he said.

The beneficiaries, however, commended the school for its kindness and dedication to community development.
