Couples Recount Valentine's Day Impact On Their Marriages
Some couples in Lagos on Tuesday relayed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the impact of Valentine's Day on their marriages.
In separate interviews conducted in Lagos, some said that they routinely celebrate it,while others said that they did not feel it was of a necessity.
Mr Tamunoibifiri Wright, an investment banker with a micro finance bank said, "Love is an everyday thing. I personally like to be spontaneous, do things when my wife is not expecting it.
"I got her a beautiful and delicious cake two Saturdays ago, a cake in jar last Saturday and a throw pillow with pictures of our children on it."
He added, "Valentine allows me to make a conscious effort to get a bit of spark back."
Mr Francis Sea, a music producer/drum-maker, emphasised on giving as a key part of love.
"In marriage, it is essential to always and consciously make efforts in reminding your partner how your love for him or her will never go dim.
"Because in marriage, it is easy for some basic essentials to diminish, giving gifts, kisses, Sex with keep it aglow.
"Valentine's Day is like any other day, I don't believe in just one day to celebrate love, but in my own way, I show my wife love every time, "he said.
Mrs Tomike Kelani, an On -Air Personality said, " On the first Valentine 's Day experience with my husband, I went to surprise him at work.
"We went to have lunch, I intended paying for it but he ended up paying. After then, Valentine's Day has been like every other day."
Mrs Bamike Babalola, Chief Executive Officer, Bami Beauty Saloon, said to her, Feb. 14 is not just Valentine's Day, "It is also the day I got married to the love of my life.
"My husband and I always give gift to ourselves randomly, we show love all the time but we have our wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day routine.
"We go out for lunch or dinner depending on our work schedule. Even if Feb. 14 was not our anniversary, we will still do something different.
"Because we enjoy every opportunity we have to express our love and Valentine's Day is significant, so why not that day if we do it at random?" she said."
