Sunday, September 17, 2017

The candidature of a governorship aspirant in Oyo State 2019 election, Dr Abideen Olaiya was given another robust acceptance by the youth as he hosted students leaders from various zones across Oyo State.

The meeting which was held yesterday (Saturday) at one of his offices in Ring Road, ibadan the state capital lasted for about 5 hours.

After welcoming the students leaders to the meeting, he took his time to give his biography with much caption on his political involvement since 1993.

He described himself as someone who due to his natural calling, was indifference about politics until the annulment of June 12, 1993 election which he believed MKO Abiola won and the hope of good governance dashed.

Dr Olaiya said "By my natural calling, am not interested in being a politician. But I had my turning point when I see hope of good governance endangered."

He advised the youth to wisely decide who their leaders would be in the coming elections.

He described the students and youths in general as strong stakeholders in Nigerian political terrain who cannot be parted with when political revolution is to take place.

The Don made it clear that the Meeting was one of his moves to identify with students and table his agenda to rescue Oyo state from the hand of political jobbers who have taken citizens of Oyo State as mere slave.

He said, "Our government in Oyo State lacks intelligent Ideas and they are too greedy and that's why we are now setting the pace from the rear."

He thereafter offered himself as a better alternative as his primary aim in politics is good governance.

The then made an assurance that if he was given the mandate to serve Oyo State come 2019, it would be the turning point of Oyo state's political and developmental history as he would leave no stone unturned.

"I'm not contesting to get fame nor to siphon the treasury of the state, but to show the entire citizen of the state that we can set the pace again and witness a new Dawn in the state."

He also spelt it out that he is ready to give it what it takes to rescue Oyo state as he admit that it is never a child's play.

"We have been enslaved by our Political leaders and no master would be happy if his slaves were given freedom. But by the grace of God, with our intellect and thumb, we are going to rescue ourselves."

In their own remark, the student leaders applaud the courage of the aspirant for bringing the initiative of discussing his agenda with them. They admitted that the discussion was a surprise to them as they never witnessed any politician giving them such a mind blowing speech on how to get a better Oyo State. They prayed for for his success in the election and assured that necessary support would be given to him.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman strategic planning committee, Dr. R.A. Adedeji, secretary, Olaiya Support Foundation (OSF), Hon kabir Lawal, Members of Olaiya support foundation and the students leaders includes, National President & treasurer of Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), FOSSU National Senate president,  National president & secretary of Students Union of Ibadan (FIBSU) and their counterparts from Ogbomoso (FOGSU), Oyo town (NAOS), Oke Ogun (NAOOS), Ibarapa,  amongst many other students leaders across the state.
