Monday, October 10, 2016

The Federal High Court, Osogbo has refused to grant the prayers of workers of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in a case involving them and the OAU Governing Council.

The court said it lacked jurisdiction to give verdict on such matter.

In the case, workers of the university under the aegis of Non-academic Staff Union of Universities and ‎Senior Staff Association of Universities are challenging alleged non-compliance with OAU Statute 6 in the method of VC selection.
They also accused the former VC of OAU, Prof Bamitale Omole whose tenure expired on June 24, of influencing the outcome of the screening.

The challenged screening produced Prof. Ayobami Salami as the VC of the OAU.

The workers also prayed to the court to compel the Federal Government to dissolve the council, among other prayers.

The Court during its sitting on Monday noted that such case should be preferably be taken to an industrial court.
