Despite late arrival, Nigeria Dream Team defeat Japan

Friday, August 05, 2016

Nigeria's U23 team defeated their Japanese counterparts 5-4.

This was despite arriving late in Brazil for the opening game of the men's football tournament of the ongoing Olympic Games.

Apart from arriving late, it was gathered that the supporters club members were also absent.

The team, popularly known as the Dream Team VI, arrived in Manaus, Brazil about seven hours before the encounter.

They were stranded in Atlanta, United States of America where they were initially billed to spend 18 days preparing for the competition, but ended up staying 39 days.

However, this did not seem to dampen the spirit of the team as the players drew the first blood from the Japanese.

It was a match in which three goals were scored in a space of fourteen minutes, with Ebelo scoring four of Nigeria's five goals.
