Osun State government has sealed off Globacom Communication office in Osogbo and its four based stations in the state over unpaid tax amounting to N532million.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Internal
Revenue Service (OSIRS), Mr. Dayo Oyebanji, and his team sealed the
place during a visit to their Osogbo office.
Oyebanji declared that the action was aimed at ensuring remittance of all the outstanding tax due to the state.
He added that the revenue agency had already secured warrant of distress from the Osun State High Court against the Globacom Company to carry out the closure.
While effecting the court order, Oyebanji, accompanied with security
agencies ordered workers of the communication outfit out as the agency
officials padlock the office located at Fakunle Area of Osogbo, Osun
State.
He explained that the company will not be re-opened until it remits all the outstanding tax to the coffer of the state.
He added: “Before this time, the state government had been lenient with the Globacom because of the importance of their business to both the people and the government. We engaged them in series of meetings with the assistance of House Committee on Communications but we are yet to get reasonable response from the company.
“It is only the Globacom Limited that we are sealing because others, especially those invited by the assembly have responded to our calls. It is only the Globacom that has not shown up. They are given one excuse or the other.”
