Osun state government has ordered immediate closure of two steel mills over environmental and safety related issues.
The two steel mills are the Prism Steel Mill Ltd along Ikirun-Okuku road and Ife Iron and Still Mills located along the Ife-Ibadan Express way.
The order for closure was handed down by the coordinating Director of the Ministry of Environment and Sanitation, Mr. Sunday Afolabi on behalf of the state government.
He explained that the two affected companies have been given 24-hour to evacuate their valuable materials.
He said, "The closure order is due to hazardous industrial operations as well as the inability of the management of the two industries to provide adequate safety gadgets in respect of environmental protection for lives and properties in their surroundings.
"The hazardous situation prevailing at the two industries cannot be allowed to continue because it could jeopardize the health and environmental safety of the good cities of the state. The order to close down the two industries is with immediate effect."
