Stop wasteful activities, govt advises Lagosians

Governor Babatunde Fashola
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has urged Lagosians to shun wasteful activities and ceremonies to ensure abundance of resources.

He gave the advice during the 10th annual national Ramadan public lecture organised by the Muslim Association of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.

Fashola said it was necessary for Lagosians to curb wasteful acts if they wanted the state to be transformed.

He said, “We do not have enough electricity but how many Lagosians switch off their electrical appliances not needed before leaving home? It is in our hands so don’t wait for anybody before you start your own. Your neighbour will join you and I am sure if we start that in Lagos other states in Nigeria will follow and Nigeria will improve.”

The governor, lamented that many Lagosians held parties and other ceremonies above their means.
He said, “One thousand guests’ party cannot be compulsory if you know you cannot afford it.

Aso Ebi cannot be compulsory if you cannot afford it. Why are we inflicting pains on ourselves? You don’t enter into debt because your son or daughter wants to marry and say there is poverty in the land; that is not poverty.”

National President of MAN, Alhaji Sulayman Yusuf, canvassed active participation in the activities of government to enhance transformation.

“While our leaders must strive to leave positive legacy, the citizens must be ready to be transformed. It is a collective responsibility,” he added.
