Ooni of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja ll, has set up House of Oduduwa Development Trustfund to reconstruct damaged buildings during the communal clash between Ile-Ife and Modakeke.

Oba Ogunwusi said this during a "thank you" visit to Governor Rauf Aregbesola at Government House in Osogbo, Osun state, on Wednesday.

He called on the governor to support the initiative of the two communities with the setting up of a trust fund by House of Oduduwa, in order to assist youths and rebuild the ruins of war in the area.

He explained that the people of Ife and Modakeke have resolved that there would no longer be rivalry and war during his reign as the Ooni of Ife and thereafter.

While calling on collective efforts for the development of Osun state, the Ooni said, "‎Ife youths have renounced violence, they are ready to work. ‎ Ife and Modakeke have come together with a resolve that there will no longer be rivalry and war now and thereafter.

‎"Europeans have been to Ife and they likened us to Roman Empire and other empire of the world, the time has come for all and sundry to see the greatness of Ife and Osun.

"Leaders in Ife are closer to the people than government, I want to assure you that the change and development that has come to Ife will spread across Osun. I don't want to believe that it will be difficult for our people in Osun to pay tax, the only way we can help government is by paying tax".

Governor Aregbesola therefore ‎urged traditional rulers in the state to help government in educating people on the need for the payment of tax.

He also appealed to Cocoa farmers in the state not to sell their produce out of Osun.

Said he: "‎I urge the Ooni not to oppress the people and to bring together all sons and daughters of Oduduwa. ‎I am most pleased with the plans to permanently end the war between Ife and Modakeke.

"The boundary razed down and other things would be rebuilt. I want to also ask that traditional rulers should use their position to ensure that farmers are enjoined not to take their Cocoa out of the state because what we have in Osun if properly harnessed, will help the economy of the state.

"We have ‎been able to enumerate 66 million fruit bearing Cocoa trees that can give us 330 thousand metric tonnes as against the 18 thousand metric tonnes."
