Security agencies warn Osun politicians against violence

Security agencies in Osun State, have said that political parties need to ensure absolute control of their members and prevent violence during and after the forthcoming elections.

The Director of State Security (DSS), Police and Prison Service said the loss of control was responsible for the incessant political violence and crisis in the state.

During the meeting, held on Thursday, at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters, Osogbo, where a peace accord was signed by all the parties, state director of DSS, Mr. Andrew Ioraka, frowned at the violence caused by politicians in the state.

He said, "Leaders of political parties are not in control of their members, and anytime the establishment called a meeting, majority of them would not respond to the call."‎

He, however, assured the people of the state that any perpetrator of violence would face the wrath of the law.

Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone XI, comprising Oyo, Ondo and Osun, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, called on the politicians contesting in the 2015 general election to be law-abiding.

He warned that "all the political parties should control their supporters and desist from any act of violence".

Assistant Comptroller of Prison Service, Mr Kayode Adelakun, noted that the prison gate would be opened for anybody that did not abide by the laws of the land.

He emphasised that "all party leaders must ensure that their supporters are not involved in any violent act in this coming general election".

The political parties, after signing a peace pact, commended the security agencies for the initiative and assured that they would ensure a peace election.
