Residents, electrical company count losses as rainstorm wreck havoc in Osun

Residents and management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Osogbo Business Hub, have lamented that rainstorm had destroyed electrical poles and satellites dishes.

The rainstorm, which occurred, on Friday also damaged other equipment at the sub station and got the electrical connections in some areas faulty.

According to the management of IBEDC, the rainstorm specifically  caused destruction of the Odi Olowo sub-station by rainstorm.

As a result of the destruction, there was blackout in the area and its environs, the Osun Zonal Communication Officer of IBEDC, Mrs. Kikelomo Owoeye, said in a statement on Wednesday.

She explained that the company had began to fix the problem since Saturday but suffered a setback as a result of another Monday downpour in the state capital.

The statement read in parts, "We want to assure you that our men have been on the field working on the rehabilitation of affected poles in Osogbo Business hub and the Headquarters is also aware which will speed up the repairs.

"However, the work was slowed down due to another down pour that was experienced on Monday 10, February, 2015 and in order to safe guard the lives of our men, we have to slow down the process. Despite that, we are on top of the situation in every way to ensure our teeming customers enjoy power supply."

She however caution residents in the area to desist from theft of electrical equipment, adding that actions that may lead to fire outbreak should be avoided.

"We want to appeal to our teeming customers to also play safe at this period as they make use of their electrical appliances to avoid any incident of electrocution or power surge which may lead to any inferno," she added.

Earlier, residents of the area had complained that they was power power outage, which cause they don't know.

They claimed that the power went off immediately during the rain storm but was not restored as expected.

One of them, Mr. Adio Gbenga said, "We are tired of this PHCN. Since Friday that there was rain our light went off and they have not restored it. We saw them working on it and they suddenly stopped. All our satellites dishes and aerial were also affected but most have fixed them because it is within our domain."
