Lagos Police Commisioner to Resume in Zone 2

Lagos State police boss, Alhaji Umar Abubakar Manko, will tomorrow resume as the new Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
 
Manko took over from Mamman Ibrahim Tsafe who just resumed duties at the Nigeria Police Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, as Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police in charge of Supply.
 
Manko had held sway in Lagos as a principal crime-fighter and pundits believe that his reign, coupled with the support of Governor Babatunde Fashola, had reduced the rate of crime in the state.
 
Manko was born on June 14, 1958 in Bida Local Council of Niger State to the Royal Family of Wachinbe Moh'd Manko Musa, a grandson of Etsu Mamman Suba, the second Etsu Nupe of the Fulani Dynasty of Nupe Kingdom and Hajiya Fatima Zakari.
 
He attended Bida East Primary School and later Daeko Senior Primary School.
 
He was also a product of the famous Government College, Bida.
 
He graduated from the Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto where he bagged a B.Sc (Hons.) degree in Sociology in the early eighties.
 
On December 31, 1984, he was appointed as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent with the Nigeria Police Force after his training at the Police Academy, Kano.
 
Shortly after being commissioned and posted to Garki Police Station, Abuja, as a young officer, he was nominated and posted to the Police Academy (POLAC) in Shalawa now Wudil Kano where he served as Course Officer for Cadet Inspectors and Lecturer in Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code Laws of northern Nigeria.
 
In these capacities, he was a prolific author of training manuals/programmes, journals and bulletins, which were used as guide and reference materials in teaching Law Police Duties, Acts, and Regulations to several sets of young police cadet officers (most of whom are now Area Commanders, DPOs and HODs nationwide). He left the Academy in 1991 and came to Lagos State where he served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and head of formations severally from 1991 to 1998. Then, he was deployed in 1998 to the Force Headquarters, Plateau State, and promoted as the Chief Superintendent of Police (Administration).
 
Thereafter, he was transferred to Benin where he served for two years before his redeployment to Zonal Headquarters, Zone 7.
 
Manko had served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration), Zone 7 Headquarters; and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation), Zone 10 Headquarters, Sokoto. Also, he was Second-in-Command and later Commissioner of Police (CP) Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto states Command.
 
He is a graduate of the prestigious Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.
