Jonathan not wooing OPC for 2015 –Kuku

Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku has denied that Jonathan was wooing the Oodua Peoples Congress ahead of 2015 elections.
Kuku, who visited the leader of a faction of the OPC, Gani Adams, in Lagos on Tuesday, explained that they never discussed any issue bordering on 2015.
Both Kuku and Adams had met behind closed doors before briefing journalists.
Kuku, who was the former leader of a faction of Niger Delta Militants, described the meeting as a “family visit”, adding that he was not mandated to discuss issues relating to 2015 elections with Adams.
He said although he had not visited Adams since his appointment, his visit at a time politicians were talking about 2015 elections was not to woo OPC for Jonathan, but to discuss “progressive issues”.
He said, “I have not come because of 2015 elections. In 1997 and 1998, at the formative stage of the mass movement against military dictatorship, we worked together, so that ideology again bounded us together. We have been talking on the telephone and sometimes meet in events. This visit is just formal.
“The visit has nothing to do with 2015. This visit is a family visit. As a matter of fact, I owed him a visit. I don’t have any mandate to speak on 2015. I did not discuss 2015 with him but we share ideologies.”
He, however, joined other Nigerians in their agitation for a National Conference, saying, “I must come to terms that Nigerians need to talk. Whether in a conference or what some people refer to as dialogue, we just need to talk.”
Also, Adams said his meeting with Kuku was to share some experiences and advice on how to repackage our organisation (OPC) for general acceptance.
He added, “I was not so interested in selling the idea of calling for an amnesty because our group did not commit any offence that requires an amnesty. I can tell you authoritatively that our meeting did not reflect any partisan issue or 2015 elections.
