Bad leaders worse than Ebola -Group

OCTOBER 1, 2014 BY SODIQ OYELEKE

As Nigeria celebrates 54 years of independence, a youth political pressure group, Advocate for Collective Transformation, has said having bad leaders in a country was deadlier than the Ebola Virus Disease.

ACT said this in an independence anniversary message signed by its National President, Oluwatayo Fashogbon, and National Secretary, Isaac Ajayi.

It said the veracity of energy used to stop the spread of Ebola in the country should be extended to every sector of governance.

It said, "Our leaders should deploy such energy, interest and political will used in fighting Ebola  to rebuild our country. Ebola killed about 20 people in Nigeria, but bad leadership, corruption has killed hundreds of thousands since our independence in 1960.

"Nigerians particularly youths are faced with various challenges ranging from acute unemployment, poverty, defective educational standard, lack of social welfare and in most cases total abandonment and systematic exclusion from all the commanding height of governance in the affairs that border on Nigerian youth interest. These trends must not be watched to continue in the new independent year."
