2,000 children hold fiesta in Lagos beach
Not fewer than 2,000 children from across Lagos State, gathered at Eleko Beach, Ibeju-Lekki in the state for the New Year celebration on Wednesday.
The fiesta was organised by the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, ‘Gbenga Ashafa.
During the event, gifts such as plasma
televisions, generators, and hi-fi devices were presented to some
outstanding children who displayed mastery of their indigenous language
(Yoruba) in a quiz competition.
Ashafa noted that the fiesta was aimed at exposing the children.
“The idea of hosting our children for a
fiesta at this Yuletide was born out of my own personal concern, love
and care for children. Their innocence, genuineness and tranquility
should occupy our minds and be ready to help channel their destiny
towards a brighter future,” he said.
He hinted that he might run in the 2015
governorship election in Lagos State after consultations with the
leadership of the All Progressives Congress.
He said, “Actually, I have been
consulting with party leadership and whatever their decision is will
form my next line of action.
“I will not say I am not qualified to be
the next governor of Lagos State. As you are well aware, the next
governorship slot in the state had been zoned to the East senatorial
district by APC, so I am qualified to contest.”
