Neighbourhood security ’ll curb kidnapping - Uba
Labour
Party governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, has
recommended neighbourhood security for curbing insecurity in the state.
Ubah in a statement on Sunday, noted
that part of his plan if elected the governor of the state on November
16, was to tighten security and ensure independence of the judiciary.
He lamented the growing scourge of insecurity including kidnapping and ritual killings in the state.
He said, “We will implement a
comprehensive plan to tackle the root causes of insecurity. The reliance
on the use of force alone will not stem the tide of insecurity in the
state. We will focus on preventive measures to stop crimes from being
committed, rather than wait to detect crimes and apprehend offenders
after the act had been committed.
“We will implement job and training programmes to take idle youths off the streets and keep them meaningfully engaged.
“We will also involve the citizens in neighbourhood security, which shall broaden intelligence-gathering capabilities.”
He emphasised the importance of
equipping security agencies, saying, “We will acquire helicopters and
hightech surveillance equipment for the police and other security
stakeholders for use in the monitoring of our borders so as to nip crime
in the bud.”
