ExxonMobil advises drivers on oil check
ExxonMobil has advised drivers to have a regular check of their cars and other equipment using oil before operating them.
The oil company gave the advice during a sensitisation programme it organised in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps for drivers at Ketu Motor Park, Lagos on Friday.
A representative of the firm at the event, Ozemoya Okordion, explained that proper oil monitoring would keep the vehicle in proper working conditions and prevent accidents.
He said, “Every individuals in life surely values life. We don’t want to die accidentally and the only way to ensure that is to take necessary precautions on our automobiles’ oil usage. We should make ourselves safe by checking that our car is in the best condition.
“Always check that your oil is at the appropriate level. Many times wrong oils are used and it gives the car some mechanical faults. If oil is due for change, ensure that it is changed without delay and of course it is preferable to use Mobil 1 to save the engine and give it long lasting life.”
Okordion noted that the safety of drivers was paramount to the company, adding that the sensitisation programme would be organised across the country.
The Acting Unit Commander, FRSC, Ojota, Mr. Joseph Udoabba, appealed to the drivers to conduct themselves in the manner that would prevent road crash.
He said, “Drivers should know that there is some difference between motor crash and accident. Crash occurs when no precaution is followed when driving; but if they drive with caution, hardly will accident occur. They must avoid accident as we are moving into the ‘ember’ months.
“In Lagos State, the driving culture is still far from what is expected of the drivers. But we are not relenting on the enforcement; that is why we are collaborating with different corporate organisations to enlighten the people on what the drivers should know. They must keep learning because that will make them better drivers.”
The Secretary, Ikosi Isheri Branch A of the Ketu Motor Park, Mr. Idowu Òludotun, commended the organisers of the programme, adding the sensitisation would moderate the behaviour of commercial drivers and improve the level safety on the road.
“This is a good move to reduce accidents. We all want accident free road and this is one of the things that will enhance that,” he said.
A driver operating from the park, Adepeju Ajimuda, urged the FRSC to work with health officers to recommend and distribute pain relieving drugs to discourage drivers from taking alcohol and other intoxicants.
She said, “Truly, if we abide by the traffic regulations, there will rarely be accidents. I have applied some of them and they are effective. But one thing the FRSC is not realising is that it will be very difficult for drivers not to smoke. What we observe is that after driving, when it is around 3am in the midnight, we feel pains in our body and to reduce the pain, drivers take herbs mixed with alcohol. I will urge FRSC to come up with drugs that will be cheap and effective in relieving pains to stop drivers from taking alcohol.”
