Again, ASUU goes on strike

Public universities lecturers begin strike


The Academic Staff Union of Universities has resumed the strike it suspended in January 2011 following alleged failure by the Federal Government to implement the agreement it reached with the public universities lecturers.

ASUU National President, Dr. Nasir Isa, said the action though painful would be total, comprehensive and last for as long as the Federal Government implement the details of the Memorandum of Understanding both parties signed in 2011.


Speaking to news men, he said: “We are embarking on indefinite strike nation wide because the Federal Government reneged in the Memorandum of Understanding MoU  signed with ASUU in 2009 to pay lecturers their earn allowance.”

According to Fagge, the Federal Government, in 2009 made a law to pay each lecturers N12,500 per month as earn allowance which it never did since 2009.

A source at TASUED confirmed that
lecturers refuse to come for lectures.

He said the lecturers claimed that strike is ongoing.

Newstrawl also gathered that some polytechnics had been on strike for about 3months.
