Before the rehabilitation, the school, which was founded in 1959, was dilapidated and not conducive for learning.
It was also learnt that at times, learning activities came to a halt once it started raining.
During the inauguration of the school on Wednesday, the chairman of the local government, Ayodeji Joseph, noted that the project would aid educational development in the area.
He said, “When the present government took over the administration in 2008, it was faced with many challenges ranging from dilapidated school buildings, inadequate classrooms and non-functional library to late attendance of pupils to school occasioned by transportation problems.
“Today, the story is different because most of these challenges have been addressed with the active collaboration of the private sector. This school has become a beneficiary of the deep commitment we have towards public/private sector participation in re-engineering and re-development of social services.”
The chairman, who commended FMN Plc, stressed that it was important to place high premium on education if the country must grow.
He added, ”Among the few organisations that partnered the LG was FMN Plc which exhibited abiding faith in our policy thrust on improvement and expansion of existing school structures and provision of facilities to promote conducive atmosphere for learning.
“We place high premium on education sector because education makes a people easy to lead but difficult to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave.”
The Group Managing Director, FMN Plc, Mr. Emmanuel Ukpabi, said it was part of the corporate social responsibility philosophy of the group to develop education.
He said, “We are here to inaugurate the renovated United Christian and Primary School, Apapa, completed by FMN Plc at the cost of about N60m.”
