Actor seeks inclusion of peace education in curriculum

Popular Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, has advocated the inclusion of peace education in school curriculum to enlighten pupils on the importance of peaceful coexistence.

Ike gave the advice during a national youth symposium tagged ‘Peace in Diversity’, organised by Youth and Gender Network on Thursday in Lagos.

He counselled the pupils to become instruments for the promotion of peace, noting that conflict results an the collapse of a country.

He said, “Peace is important irrespective of your tribe or culture. As pupils, you must know that you have the responsibility to promote peace. Don’t be used as an instrument to cause conflict in the country. As human beings, we must have temper but we should argue in accordance with the law of the land.

“The future of the country can only be guaranteed through the pupils; so, we need to train them properly on the importance of peace. This will make them avoid oppressive acts. Let us include peace education in our school curriculum. It is vital the pupils have peace education.”

The founder, Youth and Gender Network, Mrs. Anuli Ausbeth-Ajagu, explained that the country must invest in the youths to make peace reign in the country.

“The aim of this symposium is to call on all stakeholders to invest in the children. We believe that if this generation is faced with the challenges of peace, we believe that it is sensible for us to start grooming this new generation to build the nation. If they are well trained, I have no doubt that they will be instrument for the sustenance of peace in the country,” she said.
