Alaafin’s palace fire unfortunate – Amosun, Aregbesola

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun
Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and his Osun State counterpart,  Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday condoled with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, on the fire that razed part of his palace on Tuesday.

Amosun, who also commiserated with the people of Lagos Plank Market in Ebute-Metta,  where a ravaging fire displaced over 3,000 people,  expressed sympathy with other victims of fire disasters across the country.

The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, in a statement said Amosun described fire incidents as unfortunate.

Amosun said,  “The fire incident at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo is most unfortunate. Valuable property, including cultural artifacts were destroyed. I am one with my brother governor, Abiola Ajimobi, and the people of Oyo State in lamenting this tragedy.”

While sympathising with residents of plank market and other victims of fire disasters, the governor called for vigilance and respect for town planning laws in erecting structures for private or commercial purposes.

Aregbesola, in a statement on Thursday, said he was astonished to see the extent of damage and destruction of the palace.

He said, “I share in the pains and grief. We should also thank God that no lives were lost in the inferno. We thank God it did not happen at night while his majesty and his family were fast asleep.”

Also, former Minister of Sports, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, also commiserated with Oba Adeyemi on the fire incident.
