Akpabio faults critics of PDP chairman
Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio has faulted those he described as detractors for “fabricating stories about the illness of the state Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Chief Paul Ekpo, and his (Akpabio’s) administration.
The governor, in a statement after the thanksgiving for the PDP chairman on Monday, accused the critics of telling lies against the politician in a newspaper.
Ekpo just recovered from a six-month illness that involved major surgeries in a German hospital.
Akpabio said, “During the illness of Obong Ekpo, some were using opposition mouth-piece (a newspaper) to tell lies by writing fabricated stories against him and even my administration in spite of the massive transformation and development of the state.
“I thank God for his life which is why we are here today to sing and dance to celebrate his life. When I visited him in a German hospital, he was so sick. You would never understand what it means to be sick until when you see another person’s case. For two weeks, he ate no food, with tubes fixed into his mouth, nose and the body to relieve the pains in his body.”
Ekpo thanked Akpabio for funding his treatment overseas, saying, “If God had not been with me, the devil would have taken my life and today I have gotten victory.”
While condemning the false report about his illness, he thanked his family and the founder of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo for their prayers.
“The facade stories about me when I was sick were mainly carried out by my enemies whom I have forgiven,” he said
